This Month in RLB, AL Edition May 1983 Rookie of the Month RP Josh Wetherhold – Kansas City Royals A fantastic start to the season continues for "Turk", as he dominated in May with a 1.31 ERA, 28 strikeouts, 6 saves and a win. He even threw 6-innings of 1-run ball against MIL! The 80-grade stuff is no joke.

Pitcher of the Month SP Paul Reeves – Chicago White Sox The White Sox have been on fire to start the year and in part it is due to this guy. After struggling on the other side of the city last year, Reeves has been lights out in his White Sock debut. In May, he's 5-0 in 6 starts with a 2.29 ERA, 18 K's and 11 walks. Overall this season, he's 7-1 with a 2.09 ERA.

Hitter of the Month 3B Gerardo Gonzalez – Chicago White Sox The fact that he beat out his teammate, Joe Goergen, who hit 14 homers in May tells you just how good Gonzalez was. Batting .363 with 8 homers, 33 RBI's and 21 runs scored Gonzalez did a little bit of everything this month. On the year he's hitting .306/.359/.528 with a 2.4 WAR and 10 homers.

Who’s Hot: 3B Edward Roman (Boston Red Sox): In the last 7 games, Roman has hit .458 with a 1.417 OPS, 3 homers and 10 RBI's. SP Justin Samuel (Baltimore Orioles): In his last 2 starts, he's gone 2-0 while allowing just 11 hits and 1 earned run. One of his starts included a complete game shutout. The Blue Jays started to get hot in May as they finished the month 15-12 atop the AL East. They are going to need to stay hot in what may be the toughest division in baseball. It's going to be really fun to watch.... at least for the GM's outside of the East. Who’s Not:

CF Casey Peters (Toronto Blue Jays): in his last 23 at bats, he has just 2 hits, both singles, and 4 walks (.214 OBP). Since his defense isn't showing too well in CF, he's going to need to get the bat going.

SP/2B Chris Miller (Baltimore Orioles): the two-way player hasn't pitched well in his last 5 starts, producing a 9.69 ERA with a WHIP almost at 2. He's going to need to play better than that if he wants to be the 80's version of Shohei Ohtani. At least he is hitting a little bit.

AL Central's Milwaukee Brewers - A tough month of May at 12-16 sent the Brew crew down to 4th in their division. We saw early struggles from them last year too. Will they turn it around? I think they will. Milestones/Other Notes: Stolen Base Chase: Justin Crafton (MIN) and Javy Perea (CWS) need 2 and 4 SB's, respectively, to reach 300 career bags. Free Agent Jessie Weisberg is close to several milestones. He needs 23 more runs scored to reach 1,500 career runs. He needs 77 RBI's to reach 1,000 career RBI's and 52 walks to reach 2,000 career walks. A non-contender needs to sign this man! Help him get there!
